Random Quote
They don't have college newspapers to browbeat in the NBA, and they don't generally cotton to coaches ignoring the media for days on end. ("I love my kids," might no longer suffice as a multipurpose quote, either.)

--Pat Forde, ESPN.com, on why Coach K shouldn't go to the NBA

Goodfellas Dook
posted on Monday October 19, 2009
Hilarious article about Dook's new 'Goodfellas' Team photo on Yahoo sports.
But what makes this even better is that there are more similarities than you might think:

1. Both Duke basketball players and the guys from Goodfellas get special treatment from authority figures, whether they wear badges or stripes.

2. Fortunes of the movie's characters and basketball team peak in the middle and then collapse down the stretch.

3. Main characters will be anonymous in a few years (Henry Hill went into witness protection, Jon Scheyer will go into NBDL).

Random TAD Encyc. Entry
Shavlik Randolph - Shavlik Randolph was a big prospect coming of high school. There was even talk of him going pro.

Perhaps the most well-known of all the articles is one that features Shavlik's life off the court. Apparently, Shavlik's mother is a big part of this 'typical' teenage life:
Shavlik and his parents are all quick to point out that girls do not figure into his life at this point. They are "out of his comfort level," Kim Randolph says
It is also unclear if Shavlik knows how to use a knife - the article mentions that Shavlik's mother cuts his steak for him.

Here is a photo of Shavlik's mother serving steak:

The article is no longer available on the newspaper's site, but here is what the caption of the above photo said:
After practice, Shavlik Randolph watches sports on TV in the den as he soaks his feet in soothing warm water and Epsom salts. His mother, Kim Randolph, serves Shavlik and his dad, Kenny, their dinner on trays; for Shav, she cuts his steak, prepares his baked potato and pours his two glass of milk.
Be sure to read the end of the article where Shavlik's love of fart machines is discussed

Oh yes, Shavlik averaged 7.4 ppg his freshman year (Duke overhype?)

added Nov. 4th - Shav's rooomate makes him Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches before they go to bed. From this article (now purged):
In his dorm room, Randolph rolls around on an office chair his roommate, Duke track and field athlete Harrison Till, reclaimed from a sidewalk.

Now free from the nagging pain in his foot, a relaxed Randolph celebrates by gaining weight.

At home, Randolph's mom, Kim, fills her son's plate and rejoices when he asks for more. Before bedtime at his dorm, Till makes two peanut butter and jelly sandwiches or two protein shakes, ready to offer one to his friend.
Here is Shav featured in the April 2004 issue of FHM magazine!!

update!: Wow how time flies! This was written before Shavlik's bad sophomore season, so it was also before his bad junior season too! He then left Duke for the pros! Hey Kenny, if you want to write in and tell all about Coach K, please do so!
